Currently, Sekolah Semesta operates in three separate campuses: Semesta Bilingual Boarding School, which includes junior high and high school levels, located in Gunungpati; Semesta Elementary School located in Srondol; and Semesta 2, which consists of preschool, kindergarten, and junior high school levels, located in Jangli. Sekolah Semesta Gunungpati is the oldest school, established in May 1999. Semesta Elementary School is the second Semesta school, established in 2010. Meanwhile, Sekolah Semesta Campus 3 (also often referred to as Semesta Jangli) was established in 2019.
Semesta Bilingual Boarding School, also known as Sekolah Semesta Gunungpati, is under the management of Yayasan Al Firdaus. Initially, Sekolah Semesta only accepted male students. This continued until 2002, when Semesta Junior High School started accepting female students. In the 2005/2006 academic year, Semesta High School began accepting female students as well. This was marked by the operation of the girls' dormitory building, which was constructed in 2004. Eventually, in 2014, this building was converted into a dedicated school building for female students. The male junior high school students are housed in a single-story dormitory located to the north of the male high school dormitory, while the female junior high school students are accommodated in a single-story dormitory located to the north of the male junior high school dormitory. In 2013, the integrated girls' dormitory (for junior high and high school students) began construction east of the girls' school building and was put into use in 2014.
In its early years, Sekolah Semesta Gunungpati was a national school that implemented a national plus curriculum, which is often defined as the national curriculum enriched with international content. This international content included the use of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) standards for English subjects and the use of English as the medium of instruction for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In 2015, Sekolah Semesta transitioned to an International Cooperation School (Satuan Pendidikan Kerjasama or SPK) based on the Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 31 of 2014. This change required Sekolah Semesta to collaborate with a foreign educational institution as the curriculum provider. In 2017, Sekolah Semesta officially adopted the Cambridge curriculum from Cambridge International Examination with ID number 244. That same year, Sekolah Semesta began using digital technology in the classroom, which we refer to as a Technology Integrated Classroom. The first digital device used was Microsoft’s tablet PC, Surface. In 2018, Sekolah Semesta transitioned to the Google for Education ecosystem using Chromebooks. The first Chromebook used was the Acer Chromebook Flip R11, and currently, Sekolah Semesta students use the Asus Chromebook Flip C214MA.
The history of Sekolah Semesta Gunungpati is also marked by the history of its leadership journey. The leadership at Sekolah Semesta consists of a General Manager who is a representative of the foundation, the Principal, the Education Coordinator and the Director of Guidance. Throughout the period 1999-2016, changes only occurred in the replacement of individuals in office. Changes began in 2016, the Education Coordinator who was previously held by one person was then held by the High School Principal. Then in 2018, the Principal for the Junior High and High School levels who were previously held by one person were divided into 2 positions; Junior High School Principal and High School Principal.
