SMA Semesta, the First Garuda Transformation Excellence School to Win the DBL Central Java 2026 Title
SMA Semesta's boys' basketball team won the Honda DBL with Kopi Good Day 2026 Central Java title, beating SMA Tritunggal Semarang 59–51 in the final.
SEMARANG – Cheers rang out at Sahabat Arena Semarang on Tuesday (13/10/2026) as SMA Semesta Bilingual Boarding School returned to the top of Central Java’s school basketball. The boys’ team won the Honda DBL with Kopi Good Day 2026 Central Java title after beating SMA Tritunggal Semarang 59–51 in the final.
The win meant a great deal. After seven seasons since the last title in 2017, Semesta is once again lifting the trophy. More than a victory, the result shows that hard work, evaluation and a refusal to give up can turn a defeat into an achievement worth celebrating.
In the final, Semesta beat the same opponent that had defeated them in the Central Java-North final. After a heavy 36–80 loss there, Semesta showed resilience and fighting spirit with a more controlled game and a solid defence. Despite the pressure and the public doubts about their ability, the players showed a tough mentality and held their lead until the final whistle. The win also makes SMA Semesta the first Garuda Transformation Excellence School (SUGT) to take a DBL title at the Central Java level.
Behind the trophy lies a long journey that was not always easy. Evaluation after defeat, intensive training, discipline and the will to keep improving were all essential steps towards the title.
This success also depended on support from parents, the school, supporters, alumni and the whole Semesta community. That support gave the players extra energy to keep fighting, both in the heat of a match and when they had to get back up after a loss.
This spirit of togetherness is what gives the DBL win a wider meaning. Achievement is not only about individual or team ability, but also about an environment that supports one another, trust that is built, and a commitment to grow together.
For SMA Semesta, basketball is one part of a larger educational journey. The school also pushes students to develop their academic ability, character and global outlook.
In science, Semesta students have achieved results in the National Science Olympiad (OSN), up to the international level. That record shows students have room to develop their potential in many fields, from sport to science and academics.
Results at university are part of that journey too. In the previous year, thanks to their basketball achievements, Semesta students were accepted to Diponegoro University (Undip) through a basketball scholarship pathway, others were accepted through the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) to Brawijaya University (UB), and sporting achievement on the court also opened career paths through the Police Academy (AKPOL) and a scholarship to study in China.
These achievements show that students do not have to choose between chasing sporting success and building their academic future. With mentoring, time management, discipline and support from the school environment, both can go hand in hand.
As a school that carries the spirit of Achieving Excellence Together, Semesta works to create a learning environment that helps students discover and develop their best potential. Teaching, character formation, extracurricular activities and academic mentoring are all part of building a generation ready for the challenges ahead.
The Garuda Transformation Excellence School status strengthens that commitment. The school focuses not only on what students achieve while they study, but also on their readiness to continue their education, reach their goals and contribute to society.
The DBL Central Java 2026 title is one marker of that journey. On the court, students learn about strategy, teamwork and sportsmanship. In the classroom, they build knowledge and thinking skills. In everyday life, they are shaped into people who are disciplined, resilient and responsible.
In the end, the success of SMA Semesta is not only about who lifts the highest trophy. More than that, this win carries the message that good education gives every student room to grow, achieve and find their way to the future.
From the basketball court to science competitions, from the classroom to university, Semesta keeps working to show that excellence does not belong to just one field. A great future is built when achievement, character and knowledge grow together.
Pak Iwan, manager of the SMA Semesta basketball team, said the title was the result of hard work and the support of many people. “The kids trained very hard every day all year round, starting with congregational Subuh prayers, followed by morning and afternoon training. Thank you to the teachers, school management, alumni, supporters and parents. In this final, some parents came all the way from West Java, and alumni from various cities, even from Surabaya, came to watch the game. That incredible support is a great motivation for the kids. Thank you, Semesta, for this extraordinary effort. This victory is our shared pride,” he said.
